Will it work with the dish I already have?

Yes, in almost every case. A dish antenna put up for Tata Play, Dish TV or any other DTH brand receives DD Free Dish perfectly well. It only has to be re-aligned to the DD Free Dish satellite, GSAT-15 at 93.5°E. You do not need to buy a new antenna — only this receiver.

Who aligns it? Most people who buy the box on its own align an existing dish themselves — it is a small adjustment, not a rebuild. This is a box-only purchase, so it is couriered to you to connect yourself. If you want a technician, our own team covers the whole of India — Rs 300 to align a dish you already have, or Rs 1,100 if a new dish, LNB, cable and fittings are needed. Ask when you order or any time afterwards.

If a new dish is needed, why it comes with the technician

A dish antenna is never sent by courier. One that has been through a parcel network arrives bent, and a bent dish will not hold signal however carefully it is pointed. So when a new dish is part of the job, the technician brings it with him, mounts it, aligns it and runs the channel scan before he leaves.

Why MPEG-4 matters

This is the reason most people end up here. DD Free Dish broadcasts in MPEG-4. An older MPEG-2 receiver physically cannot decode the current line-up, so you get a short list, or a lot of blank channels, and rescanning changes nothing. Everything above channel 94 — including all 11 HD channels — needs an MPEG-4 box. This is one.

Setting it up yourself

1. Connect the box to your television — HDMI, or AV on an older set.
2. Screw the coaxial cable from the dish into the box.
3. Power on and open Menu → Installation → Auto Scan.
4. Let the scan finish without switching off, then save.
